Everything We Know About Moselle, the Murdaugh Family Murder Farm

alex murdaugh house

The jury’s tour of the murder scene came at the request of Murdaugh’s defence attorney Dick Harpootlian who said “it would be useful for the jury to see Moselle” before they decided the fate of the disgraced attorney. But the sale was put on hold when Murdaugh was accused of trying to offload his assets to avoid paying up in a string of lawsuits he is facing, prompting a court to freeze his assets. The property was first listed in February 2022 – eight months after Maggie and Paul’s murders and five months before Murdaugh was charged with them – under a new name of Cross Swamp Farm. One witness even told the court how he had killed around 1,000 hogs in his time in the area (though not just on the Murdaugh estate).

What happened to the Murdaugh home, 4147 Moselle Road?

Michael Satterfield, a son of Gloria Satterfield, testified this month that Murdaugh never told the family that he collected more than $4 million in insurance settlements after the 57-year-old woman’s fatal fall at his home. The property was bought by a farmer whose family owns significant acreage in Colleton County, S.C., that’s adjacent to the Murdaughs’ near Islandton, along with a partner in nearby Bamberg County, reported WCIV in Charleston. Murdaugh allegedly used at least two banks in South Carolina to orchestrate his financial schemes, including Palmetto State Bank in Hampton, allegedly stealing more than $8 million from his former clients, partners and other attorneys. The property, located at 3606 Big Bay Drive, Edisto Island, is owned by Murdaugh and the estate of his late wife, Margaret "Maggie" Murdaugh, as tenants in common. Maggie and the couple's younger son, Paul, were shot and killed in June 2021 in an ongoing criminal case also connected to Murdaugh in which no one has been charged.

Since the property was sold for $3.9 million, the agreed-upon calculations mean that Buster Murdaugh will receive $530,000 as the devisee of the estate. The final Murdaugh receiving a payout is John Marvin Murdaugh, Alex Murdaugh’s younger brother, for funds he previously advanced on the estate’s behalf. The family home was built in 2011 and consists of four bedrooms and 3.5 baths, meaning it could “easily be converted into a weekend hunting lodge with the capability to sleep up to 15 people”, the listing reads. On 1 March, the jury was taken to the family’s sprawling 1,700-acre Moselle estate in Islandton, South Carolina, to see for themselves the crime scene where Maggie and Paul were killed back on 7 June 2021.

What to Know About the South Carolina Property Where the Murdaugh Murders Took Place

Custom built in 2011, it also boasts mahogany doors, heart pine floors, a grand staircase, a chef's kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances and granite countertops, a billiards room and custom gun cabinets. There are also two man-made waterfowl reservoirs planted with corn to attract the birds and a 20-acre dove field with a dead wire and parameter fencing to minimize crop damage, the listing adds.

What to know about Moselle, the scene of the killings in Alex Murdaugh’s trial

However, not all 1,700 acres of it, including the kennels where lawyer Richard "Alex" Murdaugh killed his wife and younger son, is on sale. “This spacious floor plan could easily be converted into a weekend hunting lodge with the capability to sleep up to 15 people,” the listing notes. Known as the Cross Swamp Farm, bordering the banks of the Salkehatchie River, the property offers a wide range of natural amenities including freshwater fishing, kayaking, more than 2 miles of river frontage and plus abundant deer and turkey, the listing states. When Murdaugh turned himself in as part of an alleged suicide-for-hire plot in 2021, SLED announced an investigation into Satterfield’s death.

The case was settled in January; surviving passengers from the incident are also included in the settlement. In regards to the double murder, no arrests were made until more than a year later in July 2022 when Alex Murdaugh was indicted for the murders of his wife and son. Alex's wife and son were found deceased at the family's hunting lodge in Islandton, South Carolina, which is on the same vast property as their main house, 4147 Moselle.

On June 7, 2021, Maggie and Paul Murdaugh were found dead at dog kennels on the Murdaugh family property. The bulk of the proceeds, about $2.7 million, will go to Beach's family, as well as two survivors of the crash, the newspaper said. Another boat crash survivor will receive $100,000, while Buster Murdaugh will receive $530,000. Almost $300,000 in additional funds will go to a settlement fund for creditors and financial victims of Alex Murdaugh, among other payments to creditors and to cover legal fees.

They toured the dog kennels where Murdaugh ambushed his son in the feed room, shooting him once in the chest and a second time in the head, neck and shoulder with a shotgun. The South Carolina Court of Appeals stayed Murdaugh's murder convictions and twin life sentences, putting the outcome of that case on hold until a lower court hears Murdaugh's request for a fresh trial. Boulware, an Allendale County, S.C., fisherman who died in 2018, was indicted in 1983 after authorities seized 17 tons of marijuana on a fishing trawler from the Bahamas, according to UPI. Despite being federally charged with conspiracy to possess and distribute 34,000 pounds of marijuana and conspiracy to import marijuana into the United States, the charges against Boulware were dismissed after a government witness was fatally struck by a car in Florida. “You can’t really appreciate the spatial issues without actually seeing them,” defense attorney Richard “Dick” Harpootlian told the court. Laffitte's attorneys issued a Jan. 27 statement that he is cooperating with the investigation.

Murdaugh family home

The judge also advised them that some things have changed on the property in the aftermath of the murders. In particular, jurors heard a lot about the hunting of wild hogs – from the time of day to hunt to the type of guns used. However, Murdaugh's defense team petitioned for a new trial in September, alleging Colleton County Clerk of Court Rebecca Hill of inappropriate communications with jurors, denying their client a fair trial. The lawyers contend Hill's communications may have helped remove jurors sympathetic Murdaugh and swayed others. Murdaugh was convicted of two counts of murder during a six-week trial in Walterboro, South Carolina. The trial concluded on March 3, 2023, with Judge Clifton Newman sentencing him to two life sentences.

The co-receivers are tasked to determine what Murdaugh's assets are, where they may be allegedly hidden, and control those assets through the creation of a fund for alleged victims and their pending suits. According to the Greenville News, a settlement agreement was filed by attorneys for Maggie Murdaugh on Jan. 10 outlining how the money from the sale of the hunting lodge will be dispersed. The proceeds of the infamous hunting lodge will largely benefit the survivors and victims of a 2019 drunken boat crash caused by the youngest member of the fallen-from-grace legal dynasty.

Alex Murdaugh was convicted in March of killing his wife Maggie Murdaugh and son Paul near the family dog kennels, about a quarter mile from the house on June 7, 2021. The listing comes less than five months after Alex Murdaugh, 53 — the father of the family — allegedly conspired to hire a hit man to kill him so that he could leave his only surviving son, Richard, known as Buster, a $10 million life insurance policy, The Post reported. On April 26, those attorneys filed a motion in Hampton County Court of Common Pleas asking the court to consider and approve the sale of one of Murdaugh's real estate properties, his family vacation home in Edisto. In addition to cellphone data, one of the strongest pieces of evidence against Alex (more on the trial ahead!) was a Snapchat video captured by Paul that put his father at the kennels—the scene of the crime—minutes prior to the murders. Alex had previously claimed to be napping at the main home on the property during that time frame, and the video reveals his duplicity. When on the stand, Alex admitted to lying about this, referencing an 1808 quote from Sir Walter Scott, "Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive."

According to a representative for Liberty Auction, three times the normal crowd showed up to bid on the macabre remnants of the Murdaugh family’s life at their once idyllic country home, CBS News reported. In February 2022, The Crosby Land Company, a land brokerage and consulting firm, listed the property on its website. The estate sold for $3.9 million in March 2023, despite the stigmatizing events that occurred there. Local farmers James Ayer and Jeffrey Godley teamed up to make the purchase, The New York Post reported. At the time, the buyers told the outlet that they weren't sure what they were going to do with the property. This has happened in other high-profile cases, including the one in which Michael Peterson allegedly murdered his wife Kathleen Peterson at their North Carolina home.

Last week, the property, which was held in Maggie Murdaugh’s name at the time she was killed, was sold by The Crosby Land Company, according to a listing. The buyers are reportedly “two men,” according to Savannah, Georgia-based ABC affiliate WJCL. An estimated 3,000 people showed up for an auction of items from the Moselle estate on Thursday — three times the normal crowd, Emily McGarry, who works for the auction house, told CBS News. Throughout the trial, jurors heard how the property’s 1,700 acres were a hunter’s paradise with dove fields, deer stands and duck ponds all over the estate.

The Best New Cruise Ships of 2023

the best cruise lines

Romantic types will love Windstar's three vessels with sails — a relative rarity. Foodies can choose one of the James Beard-themed cruises, which include market tours and cooking demonstrations with a James Beard Award-winning chef. Its six vessels carry just 148 to 342 passengers — fewer than fit on a single big-ship lifeboat — and are wonderfully intimate. Like Royal Caribbean and Norwegian, MSC Cruises operates big, resort-like vessels that appeal to a broad audience. Among the highlight of its cruises in North America are stops at its new private island in the Bahamas, the Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. Meet-and-greets with Disney characters, Disney-themed shows and the most extensive kiddie fun zones on the high seas are just a few of the family-friendly allures of a Disney cruise.

Tauck claims to have specialised in solo travel for over 90 years, and today this translates to special solo savings and no single supplement on European river cruises. Travellers looking to see the continent ‘solo style’ can benefit from savings of up to £750, and will enjoy more stylish, contemporary ships with fewer guests for an overall more luxurious experience. Trips cover Europe’s main waterways, and prices include all food, drink, activities and shore tours. Choose the Yuletide package between Brussels and Amsterdam for a festive experience at some of the best Christmas markets – and prettiest waterways – on the continent. If you’re looking for a family vacation and willing to spend generously, there is perhaps no better way to entertain your children than aboard one of the Disney cruise ships.

Best Cabins

Oceania has made considerable investment in providing options for solo travellers, with its newest ship, Vista, containing six 270-square-foot solo cabins that include balconies, premium lounge access and a welcome bottle of champagne. It has fitted its older ships with 14 ‘Solo Staterooms’, all of which offer magnificent sea views. Norwegian was the first cruise company to build ships with cabins and lounge areas that were specifically for solo travellers, and there are now around 1,000 solo cabins across its ships. With just four ships, each holding fewer than 700 passengers, Azamara is one of the smallest players in the cruise business.

Wi-Fi, tips and drinks — like cocktails, wine and specialty coffees — are included in most Celebrity cruise bookings, however the cheapest rates can be purchased without them. Right now, a four-day cruise from Miami to the Bahamas is around $440 per person, including taxes, for an inside state room. U.S. News & World Report on Tuesday published its ranking of the "best" cruise lines of 2022. Off the coast of Mazatlan, Mexico, passengers were perched on loungers, reclining on beach towels and lining the railings of Deck 14 with cameras on tripods at the ready.

When the sliver of fiery orange that remained of the sun disappeared, a black circle ringed by white light took its place. Passengers applauded the moment they'd been awaiting since the ship departed from San Diego on Friday. Every Virgin Voyages ship has the same 20 restaurants and eateries on board with menus designed by Michelin-starred chefs, according to the cruise line's website. If you have more flexibility in your budget, consider what’s important to you in accommodation. If you plan to spend a lot of time in your cabin, you might value a balcony or a spacious room more. Families might look for cabins with connecting doors or extra bed options.

Celebrity Beyond, which debuted in 2022, accommodates 3,260 guests has 32 bars and restaurants, like Le Voyage by chef Daniel Boulud, and two-story villas on board. “Having the ability to map out based on what the current weather is where you can catch the eclipse, and having a range over the course of the ocean where you could chase that a little bit is certainly helpful,” Burgasser added. “If you're on a cruise ship and a little bit farther to the east or a little bit farther to the west along the path, there's clear sky, the ship can move,” said Dan Jarrell, who was on the cruise with his wife, Kay, and friends.

Passengers can choose from fine dining, al fresco and poolside dining, regional cuisine and room service. Chaput, the Canadian passenger, said she’s been “chasing” total solar eclipses since seeing her first one in 1991. Cruise ships can help take guests to the path of totality for eclipses, allowing passengers to get a prime viewing spot and make a vacation of it.

Virgin Voyages is light-years ahead of the pack when it comes to cruise entertainment. Instead, Virgin scouts acts from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and works with underground theaters in NYC to create something all-new at sea. Intimate venues quite literally immerse passengers in some shows, and the effortlessly diverse casts further the line's come-as-you-are ethos.

But it has a loyal following of travelers who appreciate the upscale ambience of its vessels, the inclusive amenities it offers (including gratuities and alcoholic drinks) and its destination focus. Virgin Voyages cruise line is a great option for travelers who want to enjoy a cruise vacation tailored exclusively for adults. Its ships offer a wide variety of specialty dining options, from a food-truck style market with a burger shop, taco shack and sushi bar. Royal Caribbean’s wide range of activities and amenities include a little something for everything, from waterslides and ziplines to dance classes to movie nights. The ships even offer babysitting services so grownups can have a night out at a restaurant, nightclub or show.

Disney dominates the family cruise category, as it has every year since U.S. The company previously welcomed kids aged 12 and older to cruise, but as of 2018, all guests must be 18 or older to board. To qualify for this category, at least 62% of a cruise line's online traveler reviews must be made by couples. Viking dominates this category due to its "adult-focused environment and luxurious and romantic amenities, such as fireplaces in each ship's common area and private verandas in every stateroom," according to a U.S. Viking, a cruise line based in Basel, Switzerland, is no stranger to accolades.

The line prides itself on offering longer stays in ports, including multi-day visits. Pricing is higher than at the big, mass-market lines but not quite as high as you'll find at luxury lines. Get to know the best cruise ships in a variety of categories, based on member review ratings for cruises taken in the last year. A great cruise ship specialty restaurant should feel like date night at an exciting venue – and that’s exactly what Norwegian Cruise Line delivers on its ships.

The minimum age requirement to go on cruises varies depending on the cruise line and itinerary. Typically, passengers traveling alone must be at least 21 years old on the day of embarkation. Also, look at your cruise line's policy terms, as these may detail requirements for unvaccinated people. Finally, check the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) site to see a detailed list of suggested vaccines per destination. You can expect to spend between 4% to 10% of your trip cost for cruise travel insurance.

A cruise to the Bahamas is filled with exciting destinations, each with its own style and vibe. However, there are certain restrictions and guidelines that you need to keep in mind.

BEYOND THE BEACH

The attention to detail in the presentation and flavors will leave you impressed and satisfied. As the story goes, this beach was named for the old radio station that was housed nearby. From this location, Morse code was used almost 200 years ago to transmit communications with the rest of the world. Today the beach is known to be a raw natural beauty with an easy-to-reach coral garden for amazing snorkeling.

Best Antarctica cruise ships: 11 new expedition vessels that will take you to the White Continent

antarctica cruise

Absolve yourself of preconceived notions of particular landings, scheduled pursuits and wildlife sightings—every expedition is unique—and instead embrace the unknown and blissfully freeing lack of a plan. Bow to the will of providence, surrender any semblance of control, and enjoy the spoils. For centuries this glistening, glacial-encrusted continent has been a siren for sealers, scientists, and adventure seekers alike, a brilliant white beacon for brave explorers and pinnacle of polar odysseys exalting from pack ice. To help you filter the Antarctic forays above, we’ve curated a series of Antarctica cruise themes, subdividing the expedition cruise sector into styles of exploration to suit your preferred type of experience. Expedition cruise vessels are a world apart from your average ocean cruise liner; small, agile and exclusively designed for intrepid exploration, built to withstand the most extreme environs and climatic conditions around the Southern Ocean. The Antarctic refers to the region made up of south polar zones that include the seas and some outlying islands.

Antarctic Express: Fly The Drake

On an Antarctic cruise adventure, you'll sail through some of the world's most remote and beautiful locations untouched by modern civilization. You'll be able to explore Antarctica's stunning landscapes and wildlife up close with expert guides and naturalists while enjoying world-class dining, entertainment, and accommodations on board. Don't miss out on this opportunity of a lifetime to explore Antarctica in comfort and style on a luxury cruise with Celebrity. Most notable is The Hangar, an enclosed marina that allows passengers to transfer to small Zodiac boats for landings while still in the protected interior of the ship. A typical 10-day ‘Best of Antarctica’ itinerary, which actually only includes 4.5 days in Antarctica, has the same number of days and excursions on the continent, often doing the same thing (zodiac cruises, landings, ship exploring, etc).

The Antarctic Peninsula - Adventure awaits

You’ll find out everything you want to know from our Antarctic experts, including naturalists and ornithologists. For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices. A sister vessel to Viking Octantis, Viking Polaris, will debut in August 2022 and also will sail to polar regions. You must be an experienced climber, and be able to prove it, before a company will accept your booking for these challenging adventures. Truth is it’s not comfortable at all, most people get anxious about it and there’s the fear of being too cold to sleep, but we’ll let you in on a little secret – Camping in Antarctica is nowhere near as bad as it sounds and is the ultimate experience.

Luxury

Despite its seemingly unforgiving, yet hauntingly beautiful landscape, legions of tuxedoed-looking penguins waddle across the rocky terrain while giant elephant seals lounge on its shores. Known for its posh eponymous river cruise line since 2008, Scenic next conquered the ocean by debuting Scenic Eclipse in 2019, with near-twin Scenic Eclipse II making its splash in 2023. Billed as "six-star discovery yachts," the glam ships feature 114 all-veranda suites (200 passengers in polar waters), 10 dining experiences, nine lounges and bars, gym and even a yoga and Pilates studio. Amid the haunting laments of calving icebergs and raucous calls of resident penguins, seals and seabirds, arresting, awakening and visceral experiences abound here, ones that you’ll eternally evoke as the trip of your lifetime. Our state-of-the-art expedition vessels feature hybrid propulsion technology, ice-class hulls and advanced onboard waste-reduction systems. Large enough to offer excellent stability and a spacious onboard experience, yet small enough to get off the beaten track, you'll discover that HX ships are the perfect balance for the ultimate Antarctic adventure.

Princess has scenic cruising down to a science and is capable of both entertaining and educating its guests along the way. Holland America offers a wide range of stateroom choices, from lower-cost interior cabins (which have advantages in Antarctic-length days) to large suites, and all come with fare options to make them more all-inclusive. Book Celebrity with the right timing and you might find getting to Antarctica is more affordable than you thought. Celebrity typically doesn’t devote a ship to an extended season in Antarctica, which may narrow your opportunity to only one month. But the good news is that the reservation window is typically roughly two years in advance. The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) regulates ship schedules, but more importantly, ship size and passenger landing numbers.

Our Best Tips for Choosing the Right Antarctica Expedition for You

For more information to help you choose between ships, and to better understand the differences between vessel categories and their polar classifications, see our Antarctica cruise ship guide. Start planning your journey to exploring this pristine world of ice, wildlife, and awe-inspiring beauty. Its icy seas, isolated icebergs and snow-driven deserts are home to wildlife that surprises and charms.

Norwegian Star Cruise Drops Antarctica From Itinerary During Sailing - Fodor's Travel

Norwegian Star Cruise Drops Antarctica From Itinerary During Sailing.

Antarctica’s shores echo with the travails of the great polar explorers from Shackleton and Mawson, to Amundsen and Scott. Follow in their frosted footsteps, feel their pioneering spirit of adventure on the sea air, and imagine their plight forging their way through pack ice on a creaking wooden boat or hauling sledges lionheartedly across the Polar Plateau. Are you a spellbound solo traveler or shutterbug, captivated kith and kin, or enthralled nature or history buff? Perhaps you’re someone seeking more active adventure, a guaranteed White Christmas, or the high latitude high life? Whatever your preference, discover the draws of this pristine, primordial polar paradise your way.

Seabourn: Expedition Cruises Bring Well-Known Luxury to Antarctic Expeditions

Our free guidebook shows you what wildlife you might see, the places you might go, how to be a responsible traveler, gives you tips on what to pack and more. The cost of an Antarctica cruise largely depends on the departure date, how long the cruise goes for, and the type of cabin you book on the ship but most cruises start from USD$4,500. While you can't embark on an expedition to the world's seventh continent alone, you can travel solo on a group tour to Antarctica.

When researching Antarctic Peninsula cruises you’ll probably see that the majority of the itineraries sail across the Drake Passage, the infamous stretch of sea between South America and Antarctica, while a couple fly over the Drake to King George Island. Choose to fly straight into the heart of Antarctica in just 2 hours with Antarctica Bridge or sail the iconic Drake Passage for an unforgettable experience. Each passenger aboard our Antarctic expeditions will receive an expedition jacket when they board the ship. However, you’ll need to ensure you pack the correct cold and wet weather gear for your landings. Viking Expeditions has entered into the expedition genre with two custom-built vessels, Viking Polaris and Viking Octantis. These new vessels feature many of the amenities favored by Viking fans, such as a light airy Scandinavian design, Nordic spa and king bed staterooms and suites with spacious baths and heated floors.

Antarctica refers to the seventh continent of the world and is largely situated in the Antarctic Circle - a line of latitude sitting at around 66.5° south of the equator - at the base of the globe. While plenty of animals live in Antarctica (such as various species of whale, penguin, seal and bird), there are very few humans that call Antarctica home, instead using the region as a base for research. There are no cities in Antarctica but there are several research stations positioned on the continent belonging to various countries like Russia, the United States and Australia. There may not be any stores on the Antarctic Peninsula, but that doesn't mean you can't do any shopping. The Ocean Endeavour has its very own polar boutique equipped with every little knickknack and thingamabob you might need to help commemorate your journey to the seventh continent (think all the essentials, clothing and souvenirs). Our Ocean Endeavour is built tough; designed to handle the harsh Antarctic wilderness with ease while ensuring your safety at every step of the adventure.

While the destination itself might conjure up images of nefarious voyages only the fittest can endure, you only need to be in good health and be able to move around freely to participate in and enjoy Antarctica's numerous activities and adventures. Antarctica was formed around 35 million years ago and remained undiscovered until around 1820 when Russian explorers spotted the mainland. However, this may have only been the first documented discovery of Antarctica, as it's believed that Pacific Islanders may have reached the white continent in 650 AD.

Antarctica is so far south that most of the continent receives 24 hours of daylight during summer, and 24 hours of darkness during winter. The environmentally conscious ships feature GPS dynamic positioning and customized zero-speed stabilizers up to 50 percent larger than other ships. Think casually elegant style -- this time, more reminiscent of a posh ski resort in warmth and coziness -- perfect for a vessel with polar pursuits.

The Chair of the Board of Directors is Gordon Wilson who has over 30 years of experience in the global travel industry. This includes his role as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Travelport until July 2019. Njord Partners LLP, London is Ambassador’s main shareholder.Ambassador Cruise Line is based in Purfleet, Essex. Guests who book a cruise between April 2023 and March 2024 will get a free upgrade to the Explorer Drinks Package which includes beers, house spirits, wine, non-alcoholic beverages, gratuities, and service charges excluding Grand Round World Voyage.

Of the 10 passenger decks three are solely for cabins and Deck 4 is for tender embarkations, although the gangway can also be on Deck 5 near Reception. In September 2021 Ambassador announced the "premium coach service" providing nationwide/UK access to Port Tilbury from 80 bus pick-up points in England and Wales. All buses are air-conditioned, with restrooms, media/TV, executive seats. Mobility scooters can be taken onboard, but an adapted cabin would need to be booked and scooters must fit inside the cabin.

Lupino’s is £14.95 and offers a meze-like starter of six dishes, a choice of four main dishes, then a trilogy of three taster deserts. Saffron, at £16.95, also has a set meal where you just choose your main course, while Chef’s Table costs £89 and has 10 courses with wine. Alfresco Pizza Grill is a semi-covered area on the pool deck and is open for lunch and again from 3-6pm, which is handy if you’ve been off ship. The more intimate Holyrood Restaurant at the back of Deck 6 has a more sophisticated décor, two sittings and is mostly for suite guests. There are six dining options, plus a paid-for ice cream kiosk on the pool deck when the weather’s hot.

Our onboard health, hygiene and safety standards, together with our booking assurances and financial protection, means that you can sail with peace of mind guaranteed. In June 2022, Ambassador signed a deal with Telenor Maritime to design, install and support the shipboard Internet and WiFi connectivity networks fleetwide. The system combines Ku-band VSAT antennas (12-18GHz) and Mobile Backhaul broadband technology (wireless communication systems transporting data between the shipboard network and the Internet). In May 2022, Ambassador launched the partnership with Readly AB (2012-founded Swedish digital subscription service with 6000+ newspapers and magazines/UK and global/ available via a mobile app for a monthly fee). The partnership deal was signed by Bob McGowan (Ambassador's Head of Guest Experience) and Ranj Begley (Readly's UK Managing Director and CCO/Chief Content Officer).

However, while the décor in the lower grade cabins does look a little tired, we were impressed with the space they have (the smallest is 17.7 sqm), as well as the variety of options available to solo cruisers – more on this in our cabins section. Location wise, cabins at the aft of the ship are ideal for quicker access to both the Buckingham Restaurant and the Borough Market. Although saying this, there are three sets of lifts (which have a quirky design, left from its Pacific Dawn days) spread across Ambience, meaning it's pretty easy to manoeuvre your way around. Deck 12 and 14 (there's no Deck 13) serve as the pool and sun deck and during its refit Ambassador Cruise Line upgraded the wooden decks, swimming pool, two hot tubs, and the iconic funnel, which is painted in the line's distinctive purple colour.

Ambassador Cruise Line’s Ambition was renamed at Newcastle’s Port of Tyne cruise terminal in May 2023 by Shirley Robertson OBE, who won double Olympic Gold for Britain in sailing. On January 27, 2022, was announced that Carnival Corporation/shipowner (via Costa Crociere SpA) sold AIDAmira to Ambassador Cruise Line. The ship (renamed Ambition) starts services for Ambassador in 2023. Cabin sizes come in at an average of sqm, with cabin types broadly classified as standard, superior, premium or de-luxe.

Ambassador Cruise Line is adult-focussed and age-inclusive but primarily aimed at the 50-plus market. The cruise line will run a number of multi-generation cruises over the summer holidays. The offers are available for a limited time starting November 22 through November 30, 2022, according to a press release. Certainly the ship’s refurbishment is a triumph and the Promenade Deck’s lounge and bar areas flow particularly well, as a glance at Ambassador Ambition’s deck plan makes clear.

Ambassador sails for the British market from eight regional ports with a focus on premium-value. Ambassador Cruise Line’s first ship, Ambience, set sail from Tilbury in April 2022 on an ex-UK no-fly range of voyages. Ambassador’s second ship, Ambition, entered service in May 2023, carrying 1,200 guests in 680 cabins, 10 guest decks. She operates itineraries from London Tilbury but also offers cruises from seven UK regional departure ports including Edinburgh, Newcastle, Dundee, Liverpool, Belfast, Bristol and Falmouth. The deal now is far more appealing for a similar price to what I paid which now includes free parking a saving of £154, up to £100 per cabin onboard spending and the top drinks package so booking late I could have saved around £414.

As a Mainstream cruise line, Ambassador Cruise Line offers a limited, but exciting, cruise schedule focusing on very particular cruise needs. Ambassador Cruise Line cruises sail to European river cruises, the Mediterranean, and Scandinavia & Northern Europe and provides a unique cruising experience not found on some of the larger, more mainstream cruise lines. Cabins range from singles at 7sqm to suites at up to 42 sqm with Ocean View and Inner cabins both 13sqm. The biggest suites – De Luxe – are at the back of Deck 7 and 8 (36-42sqm). Next come Premium suites, at the back of Decks 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 (25-36sqm), with Superior Junior Suites on Deck 10 and 12 (19-23sqm), while Junior Suites and Junior Suite Singles are on Deck 10 (21-22sqm). These all have separate showers and bath tubs, fridges and sofas, while the bigger suites have separate lounge areas.

Ambassador Ambition’s main dining room is Buckingham Restaurant on Deck 5, a light-filled room which has two dinner sittings. Environmental upgrades make Ambition IMO Tier III compliant and therefore one of the top 10 to 15 per cent environmentally sustainable ships in the world. In March 2024 was appointed Carly Bowkett as the company's BDM/Business Development Manager. Previously employed by Protected Travel Ship (Store Manager), she manages Ambassador's trade sales in Scotland, England and Northern Ireland, reporting directly to Karen Cameron (Divisional Sales Manager).

While they’re not the most modern layouts all have been well refurbished with wood-grain vinyl wall coverings and many have new bathrooms. All have tea and coffee facilities and one or two UK three pin electrical sockets as well as USB ports, a hairdryer and flat TV screen. Most of the lounge bars are on Deck 5 and 6, with the complimentary dining rooms at the back of each deck and entrances to The Palladium theatre at the front, so you can drift from dinner, to a bar and the show all on the same deck.

I contacted guest services about this and I was offered a cabin upgrade but what was given would not have been a cabin I would have picked. “With amazing entertainment, outstanding cuisine and exceptional service a feature of our cruises, we pride ourselves on offering our guests an authentic sailing experience that goes above and beyond their expectations. Since operations started in spring 2022, more than 100,000 guests have enjoyed a premium value, no-fly cruise with Ambassador. With an average NPS score of 84, our guests rate their Ambassador experience highly, which is why 94 percent say that they would recommend us to their friends and family. Enjoy a premium value no-fly cruise that promises an authentic experience and the warmest welcome at sea.
